my daughter is familiar with XP, if i buy a computer with windows 7, can it be made to look like XP?

There's not a huge difference between the look of Windows 7 and XP, but yes, you can make it look even more like XP by changing the Theme to Windows Classic. To change this, right click on your desktop's background and click Personalize, then scroll down to Basic and High Contrast Themes and pick the Windows Classic theme.  There will still be some differences, but if she's familiar with Windows XP, it won't take long to be comfortable in Windows 7.

Windows 7 is nothing like XP. It is very like Windows Vista. Changing what it looks like, doesnt necessary mean that the Windows 7 will look like Windows XP. Some things will be obviously different. I would recommend you to go to the nearest Future Shop and look at the computers which has Windows 7 on it and ask if your daughter likes it or not.

Windows Vista is based on Windows XP as well, and is quite similar. When the Windows Classic theme is enabled on Vista, it looks almost identical to Windows XP.
