Reflecting on CES 2010, plus more video of product demos

CES_Logo.jpgI’ve genuinely enjoyed writing for Future Shop’s Tech Blog the past week or so to share highlights of my journey at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. I’ll admit, it’s been a whirlwind of a trip – so much going on throughout the day and night – you need a few days to soak it in, then a week (minimum) to see it all.

As I reflect on CES 2010, I’m thankful for Future Shop’s amazing partners and vendors who stepped and guided me through their newest technologies at their booths. They made it easy for me to gather footage of their innovations among the 120,000+ attendees!

Five things from CES that stick out

Several colleagues and friends have asked me what my most memorable moments were from CES. If I were to quickly share my top five highlights (combo of gadgets, experiences and thoughts) from last week, they are:

3DTVblurayglasses.jpg1. Witnessing the 3D revolution: Hands-down 3-D – including TV, blu-ray, sports and programming – was the coolest technology on display. Every major player in the television industry stepped up to showcase their lineup of 3D technology. Although wearing 3D glasses presently are a must, they impressed.

2. Meeting sports celebs, many of whom I’ve mimicked playing in games like NBA Live and MLB The Show. I’d also add tracking down Lady Gaga for an interview and meeting Diddy were exciting pursuits.

3. Cool cameras: By the number of photos I take, my friends and girlfriend label me a heavy shutterbug. I was fascinated by what technologies vendors like Sony, Samsung and Panasonic had on display.

4. Tablets caused a stir, but from my discussions with attendees, fellow bloggers and peers, everyone is anxious to see what Apple unveils this quarter with their device. I almost felt like the tablets at CES were rushed for display purposes, likely so manufacturers could participate in the tablet craze at CES. However, no doubt they'll be ready by the time they hit store shelves and be hot sellers.

5. Tremendous capacity of the SD card: While walking through the Panasonic pavilion, people huddled around what looked like a small poster, when it fact it was a display of SD cards. Panasonic’s SDXC format  with 2TB capacity made my 4GB SD card for my camera feel rather small.

Food for thought

A special mention of something else I appreciated in Vegas was the food. Vegas offers an amazing assortment of tasty treats that satisfy anyone’s palette. From casual dining at In-n-out Burger (yum!) to fine dining in Vegas’ new Aria Hotel (try Sirio for Italian), the food is abundant and absolutely scrumptious.

As I sign-off with this Tech Blog entry, I’ll leave you with a few more hot gadget demos filmed from the CES floor. A shout-out to Sony for lending me their HDR-XR520V camcorder – it’s one of the best handheld cams out there.

Thank you all for following me along Future Shop’s CES 2010 journey.
