did you happen to buy extended warranty with it? did u pay with your credit card/ or debit? i think if you tell them enough information about your credit card or debit they might give you another reciept. also if its only 2 weeks instead of returning just go tell them you want the game and since they have the lowest price guarantee they will give you the game.

If you bought the Product Service Plan on it, we will definitely have you on file, and you can go down to your nearest Future Shop, get them to look up the Service Plan for you, and they'll be able to print you out a copy. If not, then there's a very slim chance of you getting a new receipt, as we do not take your information down for a regular purchase.

If you do happen to find your receipt, however, take it down to your nearest Future Shop, and if it's still within the Return/Exchange/Price Protection policy, then they will return/resell the system WITH the game. Without a receipt, however, unlike rsftl said, we WILL NOT be able to give you the game. Also, if it's outside of the Return/Exchange/Price Protection period, we will not be able to give you the game.

PS - Receipts are VERY IMPORTANT, especially if you don't purchase our Product Service Plan on an item. Without a receipt, you cannot take advantage of the manufacturer's warranty, as they will require proof of purchase.

Hi Mandy, I'm curious about your comment of there being a "slim" chance. I bought a receiver a few months ago at FS. I didn't buy the additional service plan. When I was checking out, the cashier asked me for my phone number. When I asked her why, she said in case I lose my receipt, I could just go back to the store, give them my phone number, and they could easily get it for me. This seems to contradict what you said. Which is correct?

Most times we do not ask for phone numbers, as we have no reason to record it (and is against the law without your permission). Our Service Plan requires a phone number, and is how we can look up your old purchases. So, if you gave her your phone number, you're good to go, and we can look up your purchase.

Cam is correct, if for some reason we took your phone number during the sale (This would include buying a large appliance that was set for delivery), then we would be able to look it up. However, if we did not take your phone number, then chances are we won't be able to find it.

Hence why I said slim chance. I didn't say no chance :smileyhappy:

As mentioned, I did not buy a service plan, nor was my purchase a delivery.

"For some reason" was, according to the cashier, exactly as stated, the cashier told me so they could get me my invoice should I lose it. It sounds like it's totally up to the cashier if they ask for your phone number or not. Why would it not be a policy? It's simple enough, if the customer doesn't want to give it, that's fine, then that's their choice and can't come back and complain about not getting their invoice copy. I know your parent company's retail stores do it on major purchases as a routine, at least in my experience.

Perhaps instead of simply saying there was a slim chance, it would have been more useful to the OP had you asked if he gave his phone number during checkout. I'm sure no one, myself included, knew what you meant otherwise.

salinger > Since you do not work at Future Shop, obviously you would never see the way we do sales. I've worked at this Future Shop for close to a year now, and never have I seen someone take a phone number just because. I can imagine one way that it would be possible, but when doing a regular sale, it DOES NOT ask for a phone number.

We press F8 for a new sale, and then we type SA for a Sales transaction. It then prompts us to scan an item.

Like I said, I've never even heard of someone taking down a phone number for a regular purchase. The only reason I have ever seen a phone number taken would be for a delivery, or for PSP. I said SLIM so that if someone else knew a reason that a phone number would be taken, they could speak up. And you did. So, if we could get back to the original topic here, that would be great.

[ Edited ]
It could be a product specific reason that the person took your phone number. If I am not mistaken, on recievers you have to register them with the service provider. This most likely is part of that process (since I know on recievers as they are sold, they are "activated", and it wouldn't be strange to send the consumer's phone number to the service provider as part of the registration.)

There is not a prompt in our system to either choose to or to take the phone number on a generic sale. The only similar prompt I have seen is a postal code option, which there is no system in place to search by postal code. The postal code prompt was only used as a marketing, and demographic data tool. Most sales people just skip it to save time, since I believe which it is there, the data isn't backed up anywhere.

You're right, I don't work at Future Shop, but I am a frequent customer.  And a quick scan through your previous posts show that I am at least the second customer who has told you that they were asked for their phone number on a regular purchase checkout.

Contrary to getting back to the topic, I think this discussion is right on topic.  Someone is concerned about returning something, and we're discussing various ways he may be able to do that, ie the possibility his store may be able to help him out.

I worked in the hospitality industry for years.  I know some customers can be overly-demanding and unreasonable, but it has to be utmost in associates' minds that customers are the reason they have a job.  We were always taught "never say no without giving an alternative".  In other words, don't just say, "We can't", "We won't", "We don't"...   Knowing the rules and regulations is iimportant, but being able to apply those with respect and empathy for the customer is paramount and will only attract future business, not turn people off.  "The Company" to a customer is not the institution, it is the person to whom they are speaking at the moment.  Curt responses from a company representative do both the customer and the company a disservice.    ...and now I truly am off-topic, so I will stop. :smileyhappy:
