Future Shop lied to deny my price match

So I just bought this Acer X233H bd 23" monitor from FutureShop last week for 199 (comes up 230 ish total). The next day, I found that several other stores sell the monitor for less, one particularly is (competitor) (they sell it for $169 with free shipping for a total of 190ish).

 

So I went to the store to get a price adjustment but they refused it. Their reason is they said (competitor) is not an authorized reseller. The funny thing is I brought a printout from the Acer website and (competitor) is clearly listed as one of Acer's partners. Even when I showed the associate the printout, he still insisted that (competitor) isn't an authorized reseller. He then said that they only price match big chaint stores like (competitor) and (competitor). I also brought another copy of ad from a local store (not online store like (competitor)) that sells for less and again they denied it (again the store is listed as an authorized dealer. The associate said they don't price match local retailers, only big stores bla bla bla.

 

It really frustrates me that FS always advertises their best price guarantee but then they try to deny your request. I have spent thousands of dollars here but this particular case really leaves me with a bad impression of FS. I'm not sure if I want to go there again, especially after seeing the somehwat rude associate that denied my price adjustment request.

 

If you decide to pricematch only (competitor) and (competitor), why don't you just mention it on your policy so the customers know? Why did he have to come up with a lie?

 

So here I just copy pasted Future Shop Price Guarantee:

I think if this website blocks out competitors names with "(competitor)" then shouldn't that mean that it's a Future Shop competitor?

There's a big difference between a competitor of Futureshop and an authorized reseller for a certain product.  There are a great many more competitors than there are authorized resellers for any product, even for all products that Futureshop carries.

Is this true, Future shop only price matches "big box national stores" that are authorized dealers and don't price match local retailers even when they are authorized retailers?

So if I go in to lets call it "Joe's TV sales", a non-chain store only in "Whatever city" and they are an authorized retailer selling the same model as FS but cheaper, will FS price match?

 

I ask because this is not the first time that a customer has this issue in these forums.

I think the easiest fix for things like this would be for Future Shop to make their list of authorized resellers publically available, if they haven't already.  That way, whenever a customer tries to price-match, they can just look at the list and see if that retailer is on the list.  And if they just bring it in, the employee can produce the list and show them if the retailer is or is not on the list.  This would save a whole lot of headache and people thinking that FS employees are lying to get out of price-matching, or that they are trying to screw customers out of saving money.

 

Also, please please please bring in proof of the price.  Most of the problems I have seen here WRT price matching are from customers just saying that a retailer is selling for less and expecting the employees at Customer Service to simply take them at their word.

I was hoping that someone from FS can give me a better explanation here as to why my PM was denied.

Is it true that FS only price match big box stores?
