yes. you can check in the product specifications, for what formats are specificaly supported.

Yes it can play regular DVDs. A Blu-ray player will also upconvert the DVD signal to better suit the HD TV. It is not really making it into HD quality, but it will look a lot better than if you played the DVD on a standard DVD player.
