I have a compaq notebook that I bought for $1500. I also bought a PSP for 3 years. The notebook has been in for 2 major repairs. The third time that I brought it in last November was because of a defective multimedia card reader. After a couple of weeks, they sent me back the "repaired' notebook. But the problem persists so I brought it back to them again. I've sent them the notebook four times because of this problem, and they can't fix it. Finally, the manager was willing to replace it. The only problem is instead of looking for a similar notebook, he insists on offering a notebook worth $500. He was fixed on the $500 value, and I don't understand how he came up with this amount. There is one notebook in the store that has more similarities with my notebook than the one he was offering, however it costs $900. He insists that my notebook is old (obviously) and will only be worth so much. Is the PSP replacement product dictated by the manager alone and the customer has no option? Thanks for any help on this.

Hey.. My Laptop is an HP Pavilion DV6568SE and I paid 1500 bucks for it.... I got a 3 year PSP and my Battery has died.. Like Kaput... DEAD.... No Charge Left.... I know the PSP doesn't cover Batteries, but since I can't find a new battery anywhere for it.... can I use the PSP and get credit 1500 dollars and just pick out another new laptop??? Because since the battery is un-findable, my laptop would therefore be placed as not working sufficiently and I would think that I would think that the PSP would cover something.... because I can't afford a new laptop and I NEED, I repeat NEED, a working computer for my school.... Any wisdom on this would be GREATLY appreciated.... :-)
Thanks!

You can get those batteries at a lot of places.
Are you still under HP's warranty? They cover their batteries.

I have a few questions about my Laptop and the PSP I have for it.
Ok so my hinge is messed up and it's an HP DV9000 (off the top of my head), I bought it about 2 1/2yrs ago so I have until the end of this year while I am still on it, I lost my receipt but the store I went to has it on file from the last time I took it in. So there are a few problems I need fixed...
* - Hinge, it's cracked and my laptop won't open properly
* - It over heats, the place where the mouse pad is, is just abnormally hot compared to a laptop my sister bought that was basically the same model but with a bigger HD and with Vista.
* - It makes this faint whiny noise which a friend told me is the hard drive and that it might be ready to go.
* - My windows xp media edition sucks, It won't let me install certain windows updates that should be ok to install, like windows live, it gives me errors upon errors at times - that's an OS issue.
So according to the PSP warranty and what is covered, those are covered. But are they major repairs? This would be the third time I am bringing my laptop in to get fixed and I really just want it to be fixed so when my PSP is up, I don't get screwed with another major problem.
I hear it will take 10 days to fix the hinge, but with the other stuff it could take longer and I need my laptop for my school, so hopefully it's not too long.
Anything I should be informed about before I take it in this week?

Just to be clear, my desktop made similar noises for the hard-drive and eventually just gave out, it stopped working. I know my laptop's hard-drive is making the same noise now that I can listen closely for it. So if I complain about this and get them to fix that as well and the other things, will it get done? I don't want to wait for it to "crap out" and then be screwed over by waiting for it to be fixed when It could have been taken care of when I first bring it up.
I want to go in on wednesday or thursday with my laptop after I take the few files I need off of it, off (out of a 90+ gig hd - after system files, I have about 76gig of free space - so it's not making noise due to too many files on it) it will go to Futureshop and with a laundry list of things that need to be fixed and I want them to be fixed.
