Re: my brother's external hp 1tb harddrive can plug into my ...

Hello,

The short answer here is maybe.  The tactical answer really depends on the specifications of your DVD player, posting that might help us be a bit more definitive in providing a solution.

It seems logical to me that if you duplicate the configuration (such as file system) of a known working external hard drive that the 1 tb drive should start to work.  Failing that more details would definitely be required

Hope that helps.

Re: my brother's external hp 1tb harddrive can plug into my ...

my brothers external 1tb is a western digital model wd10000h1u-o0, and plays avi files and divx/xvid fine.

and thats on my brothers samsung dvd carousel player/reciever model ht-tx75

now we bought 3 more external's thinking this was great,

1.a seagate freeagent 1.5tb model?pn-9zc2a8-501

2.also a prodrive 1tb rj45/usb ndas netdisk  model nd 10, so we can also plug into router

3.finally a com-star nbex-250g usb powered    (it has also a short additional usb plug, so 2 total, what is that extra one for)

now my brother bought a samsung bluray also from you also, a bd-1590-p1600, and none of the last 3 external drives work on either the samsung dvd reciever, nor the bluray

i cannot check what file system is on his western digital i seem to recall seeing it supported both NTFS and FAT or FAT32, as i was saying i cannot check to see as there is a problem with where power supply connects to to the HD, it's loose so we bought these others, and eventually will get files off his western digital 1tb.

i am also trying to set up the bluray so he can access shared files from the network, and i am not having any luck, and seen lots of people online are having same problems

i would think with all these harddrives,  plus a harmon kardon stereo system and 50" lcd he bought, and another 50"samsung plasma downstairs and samsung dvd reciever, plus 3 laptops. a sony, hp and a gateway, 2 canon HD camereras ......that it would be nice to get a courtesy call from a connectpro guy from out lethbridge, alberta canada store to set up the tv's and network and show how to run it all together. and not have to pay extra each time when we spent so much in last 3 yrs.?

Re: my brother's external hp 1tb harddrive can plug into my ...

Well, here's some pertinent info to double check from the manual for the Samsung ht-tx75.

Compatible Devices

1. USB devices that support USB Mass Storage v1.0. (USB devices that operate as a removable disc in

Windows (2000 or later) without additional driver installation.)

2. MP3 Player: HDD and flash type MP3 players.

3. Digital camera: Cameras that support USB Mass Storage v1.0.

Cameras that operate as a removable disc in Windows (2000 or later) without additional driver installation.

4. USB HDD and USB Flash Drive: Devices that support USB2.0 or USB1.1.

You may experience a difference in playback quality when you connect a USB1.1 device.

For a USB HDD, make sure to connect an auxiliary power cord to the USB HDD for proper operation.

5. USB card Reader: One slot USB card reader and Multi slot USB card reader.

Depending on the manufacturer. the USB card reader may not be supported.

If you install multiple memory devices into a multi card reader, you may experience problems.

6. If you use a USB extension cable, the USB device might not be recognized.

and...

CBI (Control/Bulk/Interrupt) is not supported.

Digital Cameras that use PTP protocol or require additional program installation when connected

system is supported.)

A device using NTFS file system is not supported. (Only FAT 16/32 (File Allocation Table 16/32) file

Some MP3 players, when connected to this product, may not operate depending on the sector size of their

The USB host function is not supported if a product that transfers media files by its manufacturerspecific

supported devices, see page 72.

The USB host function of this product does not support all USB devices. For information on the

supported devices, see page 72.

and then on page 72 it only lists one hard drive from a company called Dvico.(never heard of them).  So my guess is that the ht-tx75 is just being picky about what it wants to work with.

As for the bluray player mentioned, it does not support playing media off of USB drives according to Samsung.  You can find the manual here, the only functionality it mentions for the USB port is to upgrade the firmware.

Now, as for getting a ConnectPro expert to contact you, did you ask them to call you?  They don't cold call customers, most people wouldn't like that.  You can call your local store and ask for them to find out what they can do for you.
